Prop design and making workshop with senior students at the Abbey Vocational School Donegal Town as part of the Creative Schools Programme funded by Creative Ireland in May 2022.
For this two-day workshop the students were asked to bring in inspiration images with which we created a collage wall. After a talk about props in film, students were invited to design and make their own objects.
Participants created designs with no limitation to theme or style other than building with the provided materials: cardboard, newspaper, airdrying clay, and paint. Objects included a variety of weapons, multiple jewellery items, a photo camera, Rapunzel's tower, and a candleholder. The workshop also included demonstrations on working with thermoplastics and making a simple mould from silicone and making Pirate of the Caribbean gold coins which everyone took home in addition to their creations.
